The kits

What is a book nook?

A miniature scene built inside a narrow box that stands between the books on your shelf. Read the full beginner's guide for the long version.

Do I need any experience?

No. Every kit comes with English instructions. If you can follow a recipe, you can build a book nook. Once we have built a kit ourselves, its product page gets a difficulty rating from that build so you can pick the right level.

What tools do I need? Is glue included?

It depends on the kit. The What's in the box section on every product page lists exactly what is included and what you will want to have on hand before you start.

Do the kits light up?

Every kit we currently sell includes lighting. Details, including whether batteries are included, are listed on each product page.

How long does a build take?

We build and time every kit before we list it, and the build time is on each product page. Plan on several sittings rather than one marathon. It is a project, not a race.

How big is a finished book nook?

Roughly the footprint of two hardcovers standing together. Exact finished dimensions are on each product page so you can check your shelf depth first.

What age are the kits for?

Ages 14 and up. The pieces are small and the build takes patience, so they are a craft project for adults and teens, not a toy for young children.

Do you sell pre-assembled book nooks?

Not right now. We sell DIY kits only, because the build is half the point and a flat kit is what lets us ship free.

Ordering

How does the 2-for-$89 price work?

Add any two kits to your cart and the price drops to $89 at checkout automatically. That is $29 less than buying them one at a time. It works for any two kits, including two of the same.

Can I send a kit as a gift?

Yes. Enter the recipient's address at checkout and the kit ships straight to them. Our packing slips never show prices.

Shipping

Is shipping really free?

Yes, on U.S. orders over $50, and every kit is $59, so one kit or two ships free. Under $50, like a single tee or mug, shipping is a flat $4.95.

When will my order ship?

Within 1 to 2 business days, fulfilled from our U.S. fulfillment center. You will get a tracking number by email the moment it is on its way. Most orders arrive 3 to 6 business days after that.

Do you ship outside the U.S.?

Not yet. If you would like to hear when we do, email us and we will let you know.

Returns and problems

What if pieces are missing or broken?

Email hello@nookandthings.com within 30 days with your order number and a photo. We will send replacement parts, or a whole new kit if needed, at no cost.

Can I return a kit?

Unopened kits can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Opened kits cannot be returned, but if anything is wrong with yours we will make it right. Full details are in our return and refund policy.

I got stuck on a step. Can you help?

Yes. We have built every kit we sell, so email a photo of where you are and we will point you to the next move. No question is too small.
