Accessibility

We want anyone to be able to browse and buy from Nook & Things, including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or magnify the screen.

What we are aiming for

We are working to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard most commonly used for websites in the United States. We are not claiming we have met every part of it. We are telling you what we have checked, what we fixed, and where we know we still fall short.

What we have done

In September 2026 we went through the whole store with an accessibility testing tool and by hand, and fixed what we found:

• Every product photo, size chart and video has a text description.
• You can browse the store, open product galleries, filter, and add items to your cart using a keyboard alone.
• Text meets contrast minimums, including headings that sit on top of photographs.
• Colour swatches say their name out loud, so you do not have to see a swatch to know which one you picked.
• Links inside a paragraph are underlined, not just a different colour.
• Every video is muted and has a pause button.
• Form fields have real labels, not just placeholder text.
• Size charts are written out as text, not only as a picture.

Where we know we fall short

• Our checkout is run by Shopify. Parts of it are outside what we control, and Shopify publishes its own accessibility information.
• Our kit photos show a lot of small detail. The alt text names what is in each scene, but it cannot cover every tiny piece. If you want a longer description of any kit before you buy, email us and we will write one for you.
• We have not yet had the site tested by someone who uses a screen reader every day. We would like to, and we will update this page when we do.

Email hello@nookandthings.com. Tell us what page you were on and what happened, and a real person will answer within one business day. If something on the site is stopping you from ordering, say so and we will take your order over email instead.
